From Programming in R to Publishing in a Top Journal, Discover a Variety of Free Activities

This spring a variety of free activities are on offer for students to engage in the bustling academic culture at CERGE-EI. Organized by the PhD in Economics program, the following events are open this month for all to get involved.
PhD student Vojtěch Bartoš, will share his experiences of publishing in one of the top economic journals, the American Economic Review. The informal discussion, Attention Discrimination: From a Research Idea to a Publication in the American Economic Review, will provide a behind the scenes look into producing a quality paper and give an overview of his paper, Attention Discrimination: Theory and field experiments with monitoring information acquisition. The discussion will start at 18:30 on Thursday, 17 March.
Earlier the same day a workshop, Determinants of Life Satisfaction: An Empirical Example Using Stata, will be held where participants will have an opportunity to learn the steps of an empirical study using Stata software. Radek Janhuba, a PhD student at CERGE-EI, will teach the one-off event on 17 March starting at 16:00.
The discussion group for Coursera Learning Hub’s R Programming short course will also be kicked off this month. The 4-week course covers the fundamental know-how in programming in R and using it for effective data analysis. Students who are interested in taking the free online courses will have the chance to connect with their peers and collaborate in their studies. The discussion group for R Programming will begin 23 March and continue every Wednesday from 19:00 to 20:00.
