Fellowships Offered for Prospective MA in Applied Economics Students
// ARTICLE CREATION AND/OR MODIFICATION DATES // note the special format due to date() not functioning with other languages ?>6 March, 2018
The MA in Applied Economics (MAE) is a tuition-based, one-year US master’s degree program that develops curious, impact-driven individuals who will help build more prosperous societies.
For the 2018/2019 academic year, we are offering two outstanding fellowships that significantly reduce the tuition fee for the MAE program. The fellowships are targeted at students who are interested in public service employment in their countries of origin, or who have already created a project with a social impact.
"The fellowships were introduced not only to encourage prospective students to apply, but also to stress the importance of their respective targets. We firmly believe that a study program offering such added value can make a difference – from students' personal careers to the whole of society," said Eva Hromadkova, MAE Program Director.
· The Impact for Society Fellowship (USD 6,500) is for students who have already created projects or enterprises with a social impact. Their record of achievements and forward-looking ideas make them natural leaders in social impact work in their student cohort. The fellowship is set up to cover most of the tuition costs of attending the MA in Applied Economics program at CERGE-EI, and not to provide funding for social projects themselves.
· The Public Service Fellowship (USD 7,600) is for students who wish to work in a public service organization in their countries of origin after completing the MAE program. In addition to receiving a tuition deferment schedule, students will also receive additional mentoring from MAE and PhD alumni who work in the public sector. The program recognizes that post-communist countries in particular face a real need for evidence- and data-based public service, but at the same time there is a lack of interest by relevant professionals to deliver better public policy.

Apart from those fellowships, there are other options to lower the tuition of the MAE program.
· Prospective students can apply for the Applied Learning Program (ALP), during which students collaborate with the university’s administration on program development projects, and in exchange receive a USD 1,000 discount from their tuition per semester.
· Once in the program, the two students with the highest GPA in the Fall semester, receive a Merit Scholarship for Exceptional Students with a USD 2,000 tuition discount for the first student and a USD 1,500 discount for the second student.
The application deadline for the MAE program, both the fellowships and the ALP is 31 March 2018.To find out more about the MAE program and fellowships, join our free Webinar on 6 March.
