They visited seven scientific research Laboratories, specifically the Laboratory of the National Time and Frequency Standards, Fiber lasers and non-linear optics, Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, Bioelectrodynamics, Nano Optics and Optical Fibers and fiber lasers. First six mentioned laboratories are located in the main building in Kobylisy, the seven laboratory is located in our dislocated department in Suchdol.
These visitors were able to get closer to scientific work, to explore scientific equipment, or to witness scientific experiments. At lectures and excursions, participants learned for example how many nanoparticles fit at the tip of human hair, that the first commercial electron microscope in the Czech Republic was made in 1951 or that the exact time in the Czech Republic is governed by autonomous clocks. At the Suchdol´s laboratory they could even see how the Fiber optic tapes works. About 90% of the visitors were traditionally secondary school students, but part of the visitors were also adults and younger children.
During the Open days, visitors had the opportunity to participate in the prize competition. First prize - the day with the scientist - won Matyáš Černý, who decided to spend one day with a research team called Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. The second and third prize - t-shirts and souvenirs won Matyáš Fuksa and Ondřej Havelka. We would like to congratulate all our competition winners!
Open days were held on November 8 – 9, 2018 as part of the annual Science and Technology Week, which is a popularization event organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
We are looking forward to seeing you in our laboratories again next year!
