TALOS
IPE participates in the coordination of thulium laser development and thulium optical fiber development within the European Defense Agency's TALOS project.

5. 9. 2019, an opening meeting of the representatives of companies and academic institutions involved in the TALOS project of the European Defense Agency was held in Brussels (official report). The project also involves the Institute of Photonics and Electronics, which coordinates the development of the thulium laser and develops the thulium optical fiber.

The TALOS project will develop and demonstrate some of the most critical Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) technologies paving the way to the design and build of an EU high-power laser effector to be integrated in military applications by 2025. TALOS will lead to the development of a compact design laser able to quickly and precisely neutralize an agile target while significantly minimizing collateral damages. The solution can also be integrated on different platforms (maritime, land and air payloads). TALOS brings together 16 beneficiaries and 4 linked third parties from 9 European countries.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Preparatory Action on Defence Research under grant agreement No 831726.
