Joint project of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the CAS and Brno University of Technology aims at the theoretical studies of four classes of novel effects and functionalities in subwavelength guided-wave photonic structures. Based on our previous experience, we plan to focus on (1) subwavelength grating structures supporting guided Bloch modes, (2) plasmonic waveguides including nonlinear coupling and soliton-plasmon interactions, (3) guided-wave properties of structures with gain and loss, and (4) waveguides with guided and surface waves supported with graphene inclusions. The analysis includes rigorous simulations and development of adequate physical models required for proper understanding these guided-wave effects. The results are expected to deepen our understanding of underlying physics and bring new possibiities in design of fuctional structures with impact for potential engineering applications.
