The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has 38 faculty staff members, divided into three divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical statistics and Computational mathematics. The Division of Mathematics carries out research in a wide range of topics in pure mathematics, including arithmetic and algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, representation theory and analysis.

The department has a large and active research group in algebra, geometry, and topology. Normally the group runs at least four research seminars every week, many of which are organized jointly with the corresponding research group at the mathematics department of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, which is at walking distance.

Project description
The department is looking to hire up to four postdoctoral researchers. We invite applicants working within algebra & geometry interpreted very broadly, including algebraic or arithmetic geometry, algebraic topology, representation theory (including the Langlands Program). Successful applicants will be funded by one of two possible sources: Wushi Goldring or Dan Petersen's Wallenberg Academy Fellowship grant.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching duties (up to 20 %), which may include supervision of students. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the activities of the department, through active participation in seminars, working groups, etc.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s potential to interact with the members of the research group. Applicants are expected to be able to express themselves fluently in English both oral and written, have good communication and social skills.

To be employed as a postdoctoral researcher, applicants may not have completed their doctoral degree more than three years before the deadline for applications. Applicants with an older degree may instead be hired as researchers. Applicants with an older degree may moreover be hired as a postdoctoral researcher under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. The starting date is January 1st, 2021 or as per agreement. We understand that these are difficult times, and will try to accommodate the starting date constraints of the successful applicants as much as possible.
