Technical Specialist in Chemical Vapor Deposition

FZU – Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences seeks an enthusiastic and motivated technical specialist with research expertise in chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

FZU is a leading public research institute located in Prague, the Czech Republic, which is oriented on the fundamental and applied research in physics. FZU is the largest institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences with more than 1200 employees. FZU tries to pursue high quality, innovative and ground-breaking fundamental research, as well as to promote interdisciplinary and applied research. FZU has recently received more than half a billion CZK for the development of a new European center in the area of solid states physics. The mission of the project “Solid State Physics for 21st Century” (SOLID21) is to address the most relevant scientific and technological challenges of the 21st century in the fields of nanoelectronics, photonics, magnetism, functional and bioactive materials, and plasma technologies.

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated material scientists who want to push forward frontiers in thin film and nanomaterial development using chemical vapor deposition. The successful candidate will be focusing on science and technology at the nanoscale, harnessing the unique physical properties of novel nanomaterials (nano-silicon and 2D materials).

Main Responsibilities:
• CVD and PECVD growth of thin films and nanomaterials (Si and 2D materials)
• research and development of new electronic materials
• development and implementation of new techniques / processes
• maintenance of instruments
• preparation of samples for customers from the FZU / external customers
• training of other users
• continuous learning
• writing of research papers

Requirements:
• a university degree (MSc or PhD) degree in physics, chemistry or engineering
• experience with materials research (previous experience with CVD is an advantage)
• creative thinking and proactive problem solving

• eager to learn and share knowledge
• excellent communication skills
• excellent organization and time management skills
• good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
