Conference "Challenges of the digital future"

The conference will focus on the topic of digital technologies, which are an important challenge of the present global era. They also concern relations between important macro-regions of the world, namely China and Europe, including the Czech Republic. Important personalities were invited to the conference as lecturers, for example prof. Vladimír Mařík, scientific director of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics, or prof. Roman Barták from the Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The Center of Global Studies, Institute of Philosophy CAS, is one of the co-organizers of the conference held at Charles University.

International conference “Africa in a Polycentric World: The African Youth and Civil Society”

The international conference addresses the topic of the African youth engaged in the civil society activities, with regard to the fact that young people constitute 60% of African population. It will focus on the place and role of the youth in the African society, particularly on their relation to power and politics.
The conference is another series of the "Asixoxe: Conference on African Philosophy" which is organized together by Centre of Global Studies at the Institute of Philosophy CAS in Prague and SOAS, London University.

Islamic Law in Modern Muslim states
Prof. Dr. Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad
In Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as the name of the country suggests, Islamic law plays a significant role in every sphere of life. Why Islamic law is so significant in Pakistan? Is Pakistani law, which is based on Islamic law, compatible with modern notions of human rights? How does Pakistan implement obligations stipulated in modern international instruments? These are some of the questions that will be discussed by the speaker.
Syed Imad-ud-Din Asad has an LL.M. from the Harvard Law School; he is a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association; he is the founding director of the UMT School of Law and Policy, where he is also an associate professor; he is a Visiting Professor at the KU Leuven; he is the first elected member from Pakistan of the International Academy of Comparative Law. His research interests include Islamic law, Islamic finance, securities, health law, and education law. His teaching interests include Islamic law, Islamic finance, international trade, and negotiation. He is working in Pakistan in order to improve the existing system of legal education in the country.
