Spreading across a wide field between economy and sociology, the department of economic sociology explores theoretical questions and empirical research, focused above all on social connections within labour markets, earnings and income differentiation, social and economic inequality, and social and economic policies. Based on data from national and international researches we draw a comparative picture of the progress of the Czech society. In 2013 a project on relations between objective and subjective indicators of well-being was finalized.
In the area of sociology of religion the department addresses issues related to the ongoing changes of religious life and the Church, and how such changes are accepted by the Czech society. Furthermore, in a large project the development of Czech sociology was thoroughly analysed and reviewed, from its beginnings in the 19th century until today. As a result tens of articles and several books were published, including the comprehensive “History of Czech Sociology” from 2014, with Zdeněk R. Nešpor as the main author and editor.
