Abstract: The first part of this talk deals with the statistical properties (fluctuations) and the numerical simulation of FEL radiation. In the second part, I will consider the interaction of such a radiation with atoms, focusing in particular on the effects of its fluctuations on non-linear processes, such as the direct multiphoton multiple ionization.
