Department of Musicology

In January 2019, a new Department of Musicology, concentrating on research into music ranging from the Middle Ages to the present, launched its activities as part of the Institute of Art History, Czech Academy of Sciences (IAH CAS). The new team, made up of leading experts, will work on individual and team research projects focused on Czech and European music from the Middle Ages up until the 20th century. It will also be involved in organising conferences, lectures, and workshops, and in preparing and realising publications and other specialist outputs.
The Department of Musicology of the IAH CAS is also responsible for the regular publication of the quarterly Hudební věda [Music Research], a leading Czech periodical in this field.

For the time being, the workplace of the Department of Musicology will be at Puškinovo náměstí 447/9, Prague 6.
