Štěpán Jurajda has been the Mellon Endowment Professor with tenure at CERGE-EI (under US permanent charter) since 2014 (previously the Mellon Endowment Associate Professor with tenure since 2004). He has been a member of the Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE-EI since 2004. Between January 2009 and December 2013 he served as the Director of CERGE, Charles University, and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (EI), where he is a Full Professor and a Senior Researcher, respectively. He graduated from the Prague School of Economics in 1992 in Econometrics and Operations Research and received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Labor Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995 and 1997, respectively. In 1997, he became an Assistant Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI, where he served as Deputy Director for Research during 2000–2001 and 2005–2007. During 1999–2000, he was a Visiting Research Fellow at Princeton University, Department of Economics, Industrial Relations Section. He is also affiliated with CEPR, London, and IZA, Bonn. In 2004 he defended his habilitation in economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University and received the Otto Wichterle Prize for young scientists awarded by the Czech Academy of Sciences. Between 2005 and 2010, a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Labour Economists. Between 2009 and 2013, chair of the Economics Panel and of the Social Sciences and Humanities Committee at the Czech Science Foundation. In 2014, he defended his professorship at Charles University where he also received its Commemorative medal, was granted the Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship at the European University Institute, and became a member of the Research, Development and Innovation Council of the Government of the Czech Republic.
