Nikolas Mittag (CERGE-EI) introduced a study on using data for evaluating social policy programs at the Czech Ministry of Finance (MF). The seminar was a part of broader cooperation between the MF and the Czech Academy of Sciences. The key point of the seminar was the presentation of a study focused on smarter and more accurate use of administrative data.

Four great presentations were given on Friday, 31 May, by the finalists of the 5th annual round of the New Economic Talent competition.

The evaluation committee (Randall Filer, Hunter College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York, Marek Kapicka, Associate Professor with tenure at CERGE-EI, and Ctirad Slavík, Assistant Professor at CERGE-EI), chose Charoo Anand (London School of Economics) as the winner.

The 2019 PhD and MA in Economics Graduation Ceremony took place on Friday, 31 June in the historic halls of Schebek Palace. Twenty successful graduates received their diplomas from the Ambassador of the United States to the Czech Republic, Mr. Stephen B. King, Member of the CERGE-EI Foundation Board, Susan Walton, the co-founder of CERGE-EI, Jan Švejnar, and CERGE-EI Acting Director, Sergey Slobodyan.

Five remarkable CERGE-EI graduates have been nominated for the Alumni Award 2019. All of the nominees have provided outstanding support to the CERGE-EI community over the past year and it is our great pleasure to thank them all publicly.

The NET Evaluation Committee has selected four finalists in the 5th season of the New Economic Talent competition. The authors will now be invited to present their papers during the final round which will be held in Prague on May 31, 2019.
