Saguáro (Carnegiea gigantea) je díky svým rozměrům a větvenému stonku jedním z nejznámějších kaktusů vůbec. Tvoří dominantu krajiny především na jihu Arizony. Zajímavostí je stáří saguár (až 250 let), množství produkce semen a neméně jeho význam pro původní indiánské obyvatele. V pouštních podmínkách nahrazuje chybějící stromové patro a slouží k hnízdění řady druhů ptáků.

Saguáro (Carnegiea gigantean) is one of the most popular Cactus species of the world thanks to its size and its ramified stem. This plant forms a dominating feature of the landscape, especially in the South Arizona. The species is peculiar thanks to the age it can reach (up to 250 years), its production of a great amount of seeds and its importance for the native Indians. In deserts, this plant substitutes the tree level which is missing there and offers nesting possibilities for a wide range of bird species.
