The Isabel and Alfred Bader Scholarship for Doctoral Students in the Field of Art History

We are delighted to announce that the foundation Bader Philanthropies, Inc. (Milwaukee, U. S. A., http://hbf.org/) has kindly decided to award a grant to the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IAH CAS), which during the next three years will once again make it possible to support projects prepared by art history students. The award of this grant continues the support that the prominent chemist and philanthropist Dr. Alfred Bader and his wife Isabel have provided to Czech students in previous years.

The new grant programme, which has been prepared by the IAH CAS in cooperation with the Czech Association of Art Historians and which will be financed from the Isabel & Alfred Bader Fund, aims to support three projects of excellence each year, focusing on basic research in the field of the history and theory of European art and architecture from the Middle Ages up to the 20th century, with each project receiving an amount of 11,000 USD.

The support is intended for doctoral students in the field of the history and theory of art who are studying at universities in the Czech Republic. The primary purpose of the support is to finance study and research visits at universities and research institutes abroad. The selection and evaluation of the projects will be carried out by a commission of experts made up of representatives of the Czech Association of Art Historians, specialised university workplaces, and the IAH CAS. Details of the conditions for the grant competition will be published soon. The deadline for submitting projects for the first year will be 31 January 2016.
