Specialises in the Eneolithic, particularly the period of the Corded Ware culture and the Beaker culture. His main area of interest is the stone chipped industry of this period, research into the transport of raw materials, manufacturing technology and the use of the resulting tools. He also compiles the oldest histories of selected villages, towns and cities, predominantly in South Moravia.
 
He studied Archaeology at Masaryk University in Brno, followed by a study program at the Department of General History and Prehistory of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. As an archaeologist he first worked in the Brno-venkov district museum in Ivančice and since 1981 has been employed at the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno, where he is now a researcher and head of the Moravian and Silesian Prehistory Department.
