The monograph summarizes main explanations of electoral participation and its decline. It presents a systematic own theory of electoral participation which stresses the importance of mobilization by external actors and individual motivations (instrumentál, expressive and normative). This theoretical framework is used to explain the level and decline in electoral participation. This decline was caused mainly by the decreasing engagement of people in social networks, growing critical evaluation of political parties and increasing belief that it doesn’t make any sense to vote in elections.
