Facts & Figures
The WIAS was founded in 1992 as a part of Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. It is a member of Leibniz Association. Moreover, it is a member of ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics) and IMSI (International Mathematical Sciences Institutes).
The scientific work at WIAS is supported by its Scientific Advisory Board.
The WIAS is seat of the Secretariat of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) as well as the office of the German Mathematical Society.
On December 31, 2018, WIAS had 139 staff members, 103 of whom were scientists (incl. Ph.D. students). 40 of these positions were funded by grants. The institute received in 2018 for its budget 9.9 million Euros by the Federal Government and the Federal States.
