About the Institute

The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, v. v. i. (FZU) is a public research institution focused on basic and applied research in the area of physics. FZU is the largest institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences with more than 1,300 employees where a significant part is represented by employees from abroad. We search for a colleague for our newly established experimental lab of Scanning Probe Luminescence Microscopy (http://splm.fzu.cz) to fill a position of:

Master/PhD researcher in electronic and optical properties of molecules

 

What you will do:

  • Actively research luminescence phenomena of individual molecules
  • Conduct experiments with state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation
  • Analyze scientific data
  • Develop your skills, advance your scientific career
  • Share your gained knowledge across the scientific community

What we do:

  • Photophysical characterization of individual atoms and molecules with sub-nanometer spatial resolution with ultrahigh-vacuum cryogenic scanning probe microscopy
  • Focus on research of molecular electro/photoluminescence, Raman scattering on organic molecules, using tip-enhanced photon spectroscopy
  • Theoretical modelling of the observed phenomena by TD-DFT
  • Automation of experiments, development of experimental techniques
  • Highly customized computer analysis of spectroscopic and image data
  • Publish research papers, present results at international level
  • Maintain fruitful collaborations

Required qualifications:

  • Master or PhD. in physics, physical chemistry or electrotechnics
  • Knowledge of current ultrahigh vacuum technology
  • Motivation to conduct experiments with atoms, molecules and optics
  • Programming skills in Python/numpy is an advantage
  • Systematic approach to problem-solving
  • Ambition
  • Advanced English for everyday communication

Terms of employment:

The initial period of employment is 1 year (with the possibility of an extension).
