Včelník rakouský (Dracocephalum austriacum) je kriticky ohrožený druh naší i slovenské květeny. Pro jeho ochranu je nutné vytvořit strategii založenou na znalosti populační biologie, ekologie a genetiky. Právě tyto aspekty byly předmětem výzkumu včelníku v Českém a Slovenském krasu. Přestože se počet jeho lokalit za posledních 100 let zmenšil, na některých místech populace neklesají, ale spíše rostou. Podaří-li se zajistit občasné odstraňování křovin, nebude třeba se vyhynutí včelníku obávat.

Dracocephalum austriacum is a critically endangered species of both Czech and Slovak flora. A conservation strategy is required for the survival of the species, based on population biology, ecology and genetics. Research into these aspects has been performed in the Czech and Slovak Karst areas. Although the number of localities in which this species occurs has decreased over the last 100 years, in some places its populations are actually increasing. Dracocephalum austriacum would not be threated with extinction if shrubs were occasionally cleared in its localities.
