The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, v. v. i. (FZU) is a public research institution focused on basic and applied research in the area of physics. The FZU is the largest institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences with more than 1,300 employees where a significant part is represented by employees from abroad.

The FZU ambition is to push the boundaries of human knowledge and to carry out top class research of elementary particles, condensed systems, solids, optics and plasma and laser physics.

On 26th April 2019 the FZU has become a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award certificate which is awarded by the European Commission. The FZU, the largest institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, has thus ranked among the group of prestigious European institutions having the right to use this certificate.

We are looking for university students to join the Department of Radiation and Chemical Physics, near underground line C – Ládví.

Job description:

The student will participate in the development, implementation and testing of methods for the development of single-electron bases suitable for the description of Rydberg excited and resonant states. Subsequently, the student will participate in the study of resonances of selected systems.

The work will include:

  • theoretical derivation
  • programming
  • entering calculations and analysing results

Requirements:

The student should know the basics of quantum mechanics, ideally after the completion of an advanced course. The student should be interested in theoretical methods and autonomous study of molecular

and atomic systems.

  • Theoretical rudiments or practice in quantum chemistry is an advantage.
  • Basic user skills in UNIX/Linux operating system.
  • Basic knowledge of programming and scripting

We offer:

  • Interesting and varied work in research in the field of theoretical chemical physics
  • Opportunity to participate in the work of an outstanding research institution
  • Support of further education, personal development and grows
  • Flexible working hours

The collaboration can start in winter 2021.
