Zaměření:

There is increasing evidence of the backsliding of democracy in the CEE region. One of the key reasons behind is the slow progress in law implementation and the societal resilience against corruption. At the same time, within representative democracies there is an increasing void between societies and its citizens, further fueling the low quality of democratization and legitimation processes. My key research interest is focused on democratization and Europeanisation processes in the CEE region and the role of the national parliaments in the process of embedding democracies, both internally on the nation-state and externally, on the European level. My PhD research project investigates the conditions under which democratic accountability through national parliaments is exercised and the role of the MEPs and political parties as main actors in the process of legitimation. It also investigates how social trust affects the process of democratisation between citizens and societies, under the EU integration process. Hence, my PhD project aims to answer how the process of (indirect) legitimation through the representative democracies affects both national and EU democratic legitimacy.
