Postdoctoral position - ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC

Perex

Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences invites applications for a Postdoctoral position working on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC.

Institute of Physics (FZU) of the Czech Academy of Sciences is a member of the ATLAS collaboration, which builds and operates one of the major experiments installed on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Among the greatest commitments of FZU to the ATLAS collaboration is our participation in the ATLAS ITk project, which main goal is the upgrade of the inner tracking detector for High Luminosity LHC accelerator (HL-LHC). The operation of HL-LHC is expected to start in 2027. Within this commitment, our Department of Detector Development and Data Processing will test more than 4500 silicon strip sensors.  The Institute of Physics is also heavily involved in the testbeam and irradiation campaigns of the ATLAS ITk strip project.

Text

Besides the ATLAS ITk project the long-term research topic of our detector development group is study of electrical properties of unirradiated and irradiated silicon strip sensors. This research is performed mainly within our membership in the RD50 collaboration.

To be able to continue in the above described research and meet our commitments to the ATLAS ITk project a new Clean laboratory for testing of silicon particle detectors equipped with the state-of-the-art instruments was set up in 2018.

Applicants are expected to have, or be working towards, a doctoral degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field.

We offer:

  • Opportunity to work with a young team of scientists on an exciting research project.
  • 5 weeks of holiday, 5 sick days.
  • Pension insurance.
  • Holiday allowance.
  • Multisport card.
  • Meal vouchers.
  • Training and development possibilities, language courses.
  • Flexible working hours.

Workplace: Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Na Slovance 1999/2, 182 21 Praha, Czech Republic

Applications, containing CV, cover letter, contacts of references and any other material the candidate considers relevant, should be sent to daceva [at] fzu [dot] cz.

The successful candidate will be expected to take an important role in the ATLAS ITk project, with emphasis on the testing of silicon strip sensors in Prague laboratory and active participation in testbeam and irradiation campaigns at CERN and DESY.

FZU values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. Applications from female physicists are strongly encouraged.

We expect applications until 1st December 2020.
