I am a member of Liquid Crystals working group in the department of Dielectrics. I deal with new thermotropic liquid crystalline materials of different molecular shape: rod-like, bent-shaped, hockey-stick, disc-like. We study relations among chirality, dipolar order, polarity and molecular structure. We acquire information about newly prepared compounds, their phases and physical properties such as: optical, electro-optical, dielectric, in selected cases also photosensitive or luminescent. We study the influence of different types of lateral substitutions, presence and position of functional moieties in the molecular core on the mesomorphic behaviour of the studied systems.
