Predátoři jsou na rozdíl od herbivorů, parazitů a parazitoidů mnohem méně často potravně specializovaní. Jsou sice známí predátoři specializovaní na jeden typ kořisti, ale i tito loví během svého života více druhů. My jsme pomocí behaviorálních experimentů a molekulární analýzy obsahu střeva zjistili, že pavouci jihoafrického druhu Ammoxenus amphalodes jsou monofágní specialisté, kteří během celého života loví jenom jeden druh termita.

Predators are less frequently specialized in certain food types than herbivores, parasites and parasitoids. Even prey-specialized predators capture several prey species during their lifetime. We combined behavioral experiments and molecular gut content analysis to confirm the hypothesis
that spiders of the South African species Ammoxenus amphalodes are monophagous specialists, which feed on just one termite species – Hodotermes mossambicus – for their entire life.
