Key foreign researcher at the Research Centre of Cosmic Rays and Radiation Events in the Atmosphere (CRREAT)

Key foreign researcher at the Research Centre of Cosmic Rays and Radiation Events in the Atmosphere (CRREAT).

The CRREAT team performs measurements of the atmospheric radiation and ionization events using satellites, aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, monitoring cars, and ground stations. The CRREAT project (www.crreat.eu) shall contribute to the improvement of space weather models, air transport safety, and global navigation systems reliability.

Objectives of the project CRREAT are to deepen the knowledge about the relation between atmospheric phenomena and ionizing radiation, and to clarify phenomena causing variations of the secondary cosmic particles (SCP) in the atmosphere. 

 

Job description:

• Management of scientific activities of the whole team consisting of 15 researchers from three institutions: NPI of the CAS, Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) of the CAS, Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FEE CTU)

• Participation in the team's scientific activities, in the preparation of scientific papers, articles and their publication, presentations of results at conferences, preparation of grant proposals (applications), assistance in supervision work of undergraduate and graduate students

 

 Requirements:

• University education in physics or applied mathematics or related fields

• Work in a foreign scientific and research (R&D) institution within five years (2009-2013), where the employee carried out independent active research for at least 36 consecutive calendar months

• A person well recognized in his/her field at the international level, meeting the requirements for level R3 or R4 (Established Researcher / Leading Researcher), i.e.:

• Rich history of publishing

• Managerial qualities

• Demonstrable success in obtaining grants in international R&D programs

• Other R&D experience standardly required for senior researchers in prestigious foreign R&D workplaces

 

We offer:

• Full-time employment (in case of the applicant's interest even shorter, but at least 0.5 FTE) until October 31, 2022 (with the possibility of extending), fully implemented at the CRREAT project workplace

Max. monthly gross salary for full-time employment: CZK 84,000

Job Description: 
Nuclear Physics Institute of the CAS, Rez/Prague, opens a post-doctoral research position in the  group  of low-energy nuclear and hadron physics. ​Research interests of the group cover a broad range of topics, including ab initio approaches to nuclear and hypernuclear structure and reactions, effective field theories, strangeness and hadron physics, electroweak and dark matter  interactions with nuclei, as well as high-performance computing applications to few- and many-body nuclear methods.

The applicant must hold a​ Ph.D. in nuclear/theoretical physics or a related field by the beginning  of the postdoctoral appointment. ​Good mathematical and programming skills are required.  Previous experience in high-performance computing will be considered as a merit. ​ The  successful candidate is expected to work closely with Daniel Gazda and Tomas Dytrych. Scientist in the Electron Spectroscopy Group

Nuclear Physics Institute of the CAS, v. v. i.

offers a scientist position in the Electron Spectroscopy Group which is fully involved in the international project KATRIN (KArlsruhe TRItium Neutrino experiment). The aim of the project is the experimental determination of the neutrino mass with the unprecedented precision, by a factor of 10 better in comparison with the predecessors.     

For KATRIN, the group is developing and supplying calibration sources of mono-energetic electrons with energy stability at level of several ppm. Such sources are intensively used for the systematic and monitoring measurements at KATRIN. The position is initially for 3 years. Suitable starting date is January 1st, 2021. The position can be prolonged upon mutual agreement.

 

Job description:

-       participation in preparation and test of the calibration sources

-       participation in analysis of experimental data obtained with the sources at KATRIN project

-       preparation of the scientific papers and presentations

The scientist requirements:

-       PhD degree in experimental nuclear physics with minimum 4 years work experience in the field

Position description:
The post-doc position is opening at the Department of theoretical physics at the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The successful applicant would join the ongoing project GACR "Analysis of Dirac materials with the methods of mathematical physics." The successful applicant will work on the development of new theoretical tools for effective analysis of the low-dimensional Dirac equation or related equations that are used in the description of charge carriers in single-layer or multi-layer graphene. The use of the combination of new and already existing tools is expected for analysis of spectral and transport properties of the charge carriers in presence of external fields or mechanical deformations in graphene or related materials.

Expected beginning: 4th quarter of 2020

Length of the contract: The length of the project/stay is 12 months.

Requirements for the candidate:
• Experience in the field of the focus of the announced position.
• Researcher whose Ph.D. title was awarded less than 7 years ago. The period can be prolonged by the period of maternal leave, parental leave, long-term sickness (more than 90 days), a period of caretaking of family members (more than 90 days), obligatory military service, pre-attestation preparation.
• Publication activity – at least two publications in the last three years (the publication is acceptable if it is listed in the following databases: Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus, or ERIH PLUS under one of the following categories: article, book, book chapter, letter or review. The monitored period can be prolonged under the same conditions as the prolongation in the previous item.
• Employment (min 0.5 FTE)/Ph.D. study (or equivalent in accordance with level 8 of ISCED - International Standard Classification of Education) enrolment outside of the Czech Republic for the full two years of the last three years. Czech citizens are not excluded in general if they fulfill the condition in this item.

Job Description:

The position is in experimental fields of low energy nuclear physics and neutrino physics.

Our team belongs among the founders of the Karlsruhe TRItium Neutrino experiment (KATRIN, www.katrin.kit.edu) aiming to improve substantially knowledge of the neutrino rest mass. In the frame of the project we have developed two types of monoenergetic electron sources based on the decay chain 83Rb/83mKr/83Kr. The mother isotope 83Rb is prepared at the NPI cyclotron. The first type of the sources, produced by an implantation in collaboration with mass-separator laboratory in Bonn, is used for the monitoring of the KATRIN high voltage stability. The second source, prepared by deposition of the 83Rb into the zeolite substrate, is applied at the KATRIN calibration and systematic measurements.

 Applicant should have experience in nuclear physics, nuclear electronics, detectors and DAQ.  Knowledge of programming languages (C++) and experience with ROOT libraries is welcomed.

The position involves

  • Experimental work connected with preparation of radioactive sources and their characterizations at the NPI Rez
  • active participation in the test, monitor and neutrino-mass measurements at the Karlsruhe institute up to several months a year
  • analysis of the measured data and their interpretation

Job Description: Electromagnetic production of mesons will be studied in the resonance region and at higher energies using various approaches. The candidate is expected to have experience in the study of hadron reactions, employing theoretical approaches based on effective lagrangians, Regge formalism, and gauge invariant techniques. Good mathematical and programming skills are also required. Previous experience in data analysis will be highly valued.

 

The position starts in April 2019 and is for 2 years with possible extension to a 3rd year upon mutual agreement.

 

The gross salary offer is 30 000 Kc per month.
