Souvisejí s pokroky imunologie, s prohlubováním znalostí o biologii nádorů a s poznáním, že většina nádorů obsahují antigeny, které je odlišují od normálních buněk. During the last few years there has been a prevailing trend to use immunological methods in the prevention and treatment of malignant tumours. These trends reflect progress in immunology, deeper knowledge of the biology of tumours and the finding that all tumours contain anti-genes, which distinguish them from normal cells. Vaccines under development are of two types: prophylactic and therapeutic. The former are used in the prevention of malignant tumours and are described in this article. Therapeutic vaccines will be the subject of the next part of the series.
