• Optical measurement of pH in microscopic samples
  • Biological samples unfold into single-protein details in the laboratory of Nano Optics.
  • The laboratory operates the National standard time and its frequency and it implements the national time scale UTC (TP), which is involved in the creation of the Co-ordinated Time UTC.
  • Fiber lasers can achieve better pump-absorption efficiency by unconventional coiling of the active fiber.
  • Highly sensitive measurement of endogenous luminescence of organisms enables non-invasive monitoring of oxidative stress
  • Optical Biosensors can be used, for example, in medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

The team is engaged in the research of photonic and plasmonic (nano) structures and functional biomolecular files, the development of optical measuring methods and systems, the study of biomolecular interactions and detection of chemical and biological agents in areas such as medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

Research covers the high power fiber lasers and their use for material processing, medicine and nonlinear optics.

Activities of the department are focused on the characterization of materials and structures destined for use in optoelectronics and microelectronics. Major attention has been paid to III-V materials, binaries GaP, InP, GaAs and GaSb, ternaries InGaP, AlGaAs and quaternary InGaAsP.

The team explores novel paths to future electrodynamic and electronic therapeutic and diagnostic methods in biotechnology and medicine. Team develops new theoretical methods and nanotechnology enabled experimental tools to analyze both active and passive electromagnetic properties of biomaterials from the level of molecules to tissues.

The newly established Nano Optics group focuses on advancing the knowledge of light-matter interactions below the diffraction limit of light as well as development of novel experimental methods that address current topics in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry.

Research in the Time and Frequency Department is focused on ultra-sensitive short-term frequency stability measurement at low radio frequency in ambient temperature, both in time and frequency (spectral) domains. Research also concerns applications of the dual-mixer time-difference multiplication method in accurate measurement of short time-delays in electronic components.

IPE carries out fundamental and applied research in the scientific fields of photonics, optoelectronics and electronics. In these fields, IPE generates new knowledge and develops new technologies.
