American patent opens the door to the largest nuclear market

Abstract

A patented method of protecting the surface of fuel cells from corrosion, which will extend the life of fuel cells under both emergency and standard conditions, could be used in all 94 nuclear reactors in the United States. Innovative solutions were patented in the Czech Republic by Irena Kratochvílová, František Fendrych, Andrew Taylor (for the Institute of Physics) and Radek Škoda, Jan Škarohlíd (then for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University) already in 2015.

Abstract

Ing. Jan Fait on Monday February 1, 2021, successfully defended his dissertation on the topic „Fabrication and characterization of diamond photonic structures“ under the guidance of the supervisor prof. Bohuslav Rezek from the Department of Physics, CTU and supervisor specialist Dr. Lukáš Ondič from the Institute of Physics of the CAS.

Václav Vrba, our classmate, friend and colleague passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, December 29. His life’s pilgrimage crossed ours in a number of places and for years in our working as well as personal lives and it is difficult for us to accept that it no longer will be so.
