Martin Mádl studied art history at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Ph.D. 2003). Between 1993 and 2008, he was the curator of glass and ceramics at the National Museum in Prague where he co-curated the exhibition A Thousand Year of Czech Culture in Winston-Salem, NC, USA and other exhibitions. In 2003 he joined the IAH CAS as a researcher focusing on documentation and interpretation of Baroque wall paintings. He edited and co-authored catalogues raisonnés Tencalla I–II (Baroque wall painting in the Czech lands), Prague 2012–2013, and Benediktini I–II (Baroque wall painting in the Czech lands), Prague 2016. He is currently participating in the grant project The Idea and its Realization: the Art Culture of the Society of Jesus in the Czech Lands. Mádl is an active member of the international group for research into Baroque wall painting in Central Europe (The Research Group for Baroque Ceiling Painting in Central Europe).
