Acta Comeniana 27

The volume of Acta Comeniana 27 (LI) comprises seven studies, mainly dealing with the intellectual history of the period from the 16^th to 18^th centuries, one review article and seven book reviews. The contributions are in English or German.

Miquel Beltrán, analysing arguments used by some Jewish thinkers in Renaissance Mantua, presents their Neoplatonic and Cabbalistic notion of the Supernatural Torah as God’s essence on one hand, nature as its stamp on the other. Jana Černá analyses the impact of Spanish Renaissance scientific methodology on Francis Bacon’s theory of science. Petr Dvořák explores the status of the proposition “God exists” in late scholastic debates on self-evident propositions. Jan Malura deals with the reception of German Erbauungsliteratur in Protestant circles of late humanist Bohemia. Markéta Klosová investigates dramatical performance at the school of Leszno in the seventeenth century, especially in the 1640s and 1650s. Using the example of the Post-White Mountain refugees from Slaný, Josef Kadeřábek examines how the image of the Bohemian exiles of 1620s gradually changed in their original social environment. Eva Hajdinová compares the eschatological visions of the Bohemian non-Catholics and exiles on the one hand and the secret Huguenots on the other in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Last but not least, Nicolette Mout in her article reviews the edition of Jan Patočka’s correspondence with Comeniologists.
