In this article, I explore how 'narratives of sacrifice' shape the lives of Palestinian women living under Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and in exile in Lebanon and affect the choices they make. By focusing on women's 'everyday practice', I argue that, in response to the dangers and apparent hopelessness of their situation, Palestinians have adopted sacrifice as a conscious mode of struggle, one that also offers a way of giving meaning to senseless events. Attitudes towards women in politics and gender culture in general have implications for the status of women in politics and their descriptive representation. In the paper we ask what attitudes people have in the Czech Republic towards women in politics and their descriptive representation, how these attitudes have changed across time, and what factors are associated with these changes. We draw mainly on a survey carried out in 2014, and we compare its data with survey data collected in 2006. The paper presents the comparative results of two qualitative researches on long-term informal family care in the Czech Republic: one researching the life strategies of women caring for their elderly parents and the other researching women caring for a child with a disability. The interviews with the two groups of caregivers make it possible to compare the ways in which people in different caring situations interpret and use the same state benefit intended for people who need personal long-term care. In recent public discussions in Europe on the advantages of mixed-gender teams, many voices have been calling for more men in primary education. The urgent need to get more male teachers into primary education exists also in the Czech Republic. In a highly feminised environment, the prevailing view is that we need more male role models and male teachers who are already in kindergartens and elementary schools are presented as unique and exceptional. Behind this idea lies the belief that female teachers need to be 'complemented' by male teachers, because female collectives are not that helpful - and may even be harmful - without the presence of men....

Motherhood has always been one of the key topic of feminist thought and analysis. The aim of this article is to analyse what cultural, structural, or institutional conditions influence the realisation of motherhood practices in three selected generations of Czechs (from the 1950s to today) using biographical interviews. The analysis shows that these conditions are improving, and consequently mothers have more opportunities to expand their motherhood projects.
