Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences (LCAS) is a public research institution whose purpose is to conduct scientific research in the area of scientific information and library science, to establish a research-oriented information infrastructure, and to provide library-based, informational, and reprographic services to the institutes of Czech Academy of Sciences and other users active in research and science. Notice: Exceptional closure of the library 26 April 2021 from 3 p.m.

On Monday 26 April 2021 from 3 p.m. for operational reasons.
During the closure the loaned documents can be returned into book returns box located to the right under the stairs beyond the entry door to the LCAS (accessible to 8 p.m.) or into book returns box located next to the entry to the pharmacy at the address Vodičkova 792/40, Prague 1 (accessible uninterruptedly).

New items: January–February 2021

What January–February news can you find in our collection? As every month, we bring you a full list of new printed books along with 10 selected ones, which we want to drag your attention to.
All the selected new arrivals are exhibited in the study, next to the selfcheck, where you can look over them and borrowed them at once. They are also available in the Digital Library of the LCAS.
Complete content of the Digital Library of the CAS for researchers, pedagogical staff and students of high schools and universities is available until 30 June 2021. From Monday, February 15, it will be possible to extend/ make a new membership in order to make off-site loans

Based on the new government measures, from Monday, February 15, users without membership or with membership for remote access will be allowed to make off site loans as well as the users with off-site membership. Please note that if you are not a Czech citizen, you need to provide a valid residence permit to arrange the off site membership, otherwise the loans cannot be made.
Conditions:
1) Documents need to be ordered in advance. Registered users with off-site membership can make the order via user account, unregistered users or users with the membership for remote access can send the order to servis@knav.cz. Please check if the documents are available in our library and the loan type is „absent“ or „possible to be taken home“. When ordering via e-mail, please state the signature and name of the document.
2) At the time of the library visit, the documents must be ready for collection – you will receive an e-mail notification. If you don´t have valid off site membership, we will extend it / make a new one / change your membership for remote access to off-site membership. Read more »

The Digital Library of the CAS with FULL ACCESS for researchers, pedagogical staff and students until June 2021

Based on a new agreement between the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Association of Czech Booksellers and Publishers, the unlimited access to the digital collection has been extended for students, teachers, and researchers until 30 June 2021.
Students, teachers and researchers have access to all works protected by copyright law, including the latest literature, for the next 5 months, just as they have done so far. Read more »

Opening hours

Closure of the study room and transition to self-service loans from Friday, December 18

Due to government regulations, the study room will be closed from Friday, December 18. Current registered users with off-site membership will be allowed to make off-site loans of documents ordered in advance from the user account. At the time of the library visit, the documents must be ready for collection – users will receive an e-mail notification. The order status can be also monitored in the user account.
There can be present only 1 person at a time in the library. Please maintain a social distance of 2 meters (6 feet) while waiting for the entry.
Opening hours will be limited from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other on-site services remain unavailable.
Loaned documents can be returned only into the book return box Vodičkova (accessible nonstop) or into the book return box located behind the entrance door to the building (accessible Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.) Read more »

Opening hours

Christmas holidays – opening hours change

The library will be closed from 23 December 2020 to 3 January 2021.
Unless the government measures change, the library will be open from Monday, 4 January 2021, under the same conditions as now.
The book return box located in the library building will be available on working days (23 and 28 – 31 December) from 6 a. m. to 8 p. m., return box Vodičkova is accessible nonstop. Returned documents will be removed from the user account on 4 January 2021. Read more »
