About us

Head Office of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS Head Office) is an internal organisational unit of the CAS. It was established on 1 January 2001 and is located in the main building of the Academy in Prague 1, Národní Street 3.
 
Its legal status is regulated by Act No.283/1992 Coll. (on Czech Academy of Sciences) and by Act No. 219/2000 (on the property of the Czech Republic and its legal relationships) in the wording of later regulations, and by Article 46 of the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
 
CAS Head Office ensures basic functioning of the Czech Academy of Sciences, particularly with regard to the establishment of research institutes (as public research institutions), administration of state budget chapter and allocation of state budgetary funds, including administration of internal control system. The Office is also responsible for financial and institutional support of CAS research institutes, including programmes to support scientific excellence, and for conducting periodic evaluation of their research and professional activities. In addition, the Office provides professional, legal and organisational support to the President of the CAS, the Academy Assembly, the Academy Council, the Science Council, and other advisory bodies of the CAS.
