Representatives of CERGE-EI are Members of the Coronavirus Crisis Response Economic Team

2 April, 2020

Representatives of CERGE-EI make up one-third of the governmental Economic Advisory Team in the Czech Republic. The main task of the twelve-member advisory body is to recommend measures to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the country.

Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamáček, who is also the head to the Czech Central Crisis Committee, announced yesterday that Jan Švejnar would lead the team of economic advisors. Apart from Professor Švejnar, Štěpán Jurajda, Filip Matějka, and Daniel Münich were also selected to join the team. At the same time, Filip Matějka was also appointed a member of the Central Crisis Committee.

"All four CERGE-EI representatives are excellent experts and I believe that they will contribute significantly to preventing the Czech Republic from experiencing major economic problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic," said CERGE-EI Director Sergey Slobodyan.

"Many of our researchers have recently joined the 'IDEA anti COVID-19' project, one of the first initiatives in the country highlighting that the coronavirus pandemic will have negative economic consequences that need to be addressed in a timely manner. Some of these people are now on the Economic Advisory Team of the Central Crisis Committee. I believe that this will only multiply the impact of the 'IDEA anti COVID-19' project," Slobodyan added
