Postdoctoral Placement at Bocconi for Vladimír Novák
24 April, 2020
Vladimír Novák (CERGE-EI PhD candidate) will take up a postdoctoral position at Bocconi University in Milan, which repeatedly ranks as one of the best universities in economics and econometrics studies.
Vlado is expected to move to Italy in Fall 2020. He is going to work with Professor Eliana La Ferrrara on her ERC Grant Research: ASNODEV - Aspirations Social Norms and Development.
"I am very excited that except for pursuing my independent research, in collaboration with prof. La Ferrara, I will have an opportunity to work on a project that aims to conceptualize and asses the role of aspirations in economic development and the influence of social norms on individual beliefs and goals," Vlado said.
Vladimir is one of the CERGE-EI students who recently joined the antiCOVID-19 project overseen by the IDEA think tank. "I have been captivated to observe the enthusiasm with which everyone immediately dedicated his/her time and skills and contributed to the shared knowledge of what steps should and might be taken in this unprecedented situation," he said in an interview for our blog.
Vlado has already contributed with some translations and research and he has co-authored a study done in collaboration with the Behavio Labs start-up company that focused on the best ways to communicate the specific anti-coronavirus spread regulations.
To name a few of Vladimir's recent successes: he is the winner of the 2019 Young Economist of the Year Award organized by The Czech Economic Society. Vladimir and his co-author Andrei Matveenko won the prize for their paper: "The Status Quo and Belief Polarization of Inattentive Agents".
In 2019, an article co-authored by Vladimir was listed among the top ten most downloaded from the Journal of Economic Theory, one of the core nine journals in all of economics. In the article, “A Note on Optimal Experimentation Under Risk Aversion,” Vlado and his colleagues showed that in situation when there is a scope for experimentation, observing a greater appetite for risky actions can actually be indicative of more risk aversion, not less.
Our heartfelt congratulations go to Vlado, we are very happy for all his successes.
