Read an interview with Andrei Matveenko, our PhD in Economics graduate from 2019, who now works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Copenhagen. After Gurgen Aslanyan graduated from our PhD program some 6 years ago, he had the urge to give back to his own country, and took a position at the Central Bank of Armenia. Whilst many of us have been staying at home these past few weeks, unable to grasp the influx of information from the Czech and foreign media, it has been the IDEA anti COVID-19 project run by the IDEA think tank that has helped to ease the tension with their explanatory studies on the issues related to the coronavirus outbreak. Many CERGE-EI faculty members, students, and alumni gathered in the blink of an eye to actively participate and contribute with their knowledge to launch the project in early March. Since then, the studies have been covered by the leading newspapers, online journals, and public broadcasters in the Czech media. To see the CERGE-EI community mobilize this quickly and use their voice to formulate recommendations for others is truly wonderful, and therefore we asked our Phd in Economics students, who also had their say in the studies, to share their experiences on the project with us.

To identify an exact definition of an economist is a real struggle. Who is an economist actually? Is he or she a business consultant or perhaps an analyst? The CERGE-EI director, Sergey Slobodyan, opened the first lecture of the Talking Economics! series on Thursday with such questioning. “When you go buy a cup of coffee, such an event is considered an economic transaction. But is the person selling the coffee an economist?” he added. Continue reading History and Social Media Through Eyes of Economists→

The final day of the 2019 Mentoring Program for Women Researchers took place on Friday 1st March 2019 at CERGE-EI.
