An international workshop on the Final Design Review (FDR) of the new COMPASS-U tokamak assembly was held on April 13 to 16, 2021. More than 60 scientists, engineers and technicians from the Czech Republic, Europe, and the USA attended the workshop in the form of a videoconferencing remote connection.
During the workshop, the IPP specialists presented the design of the individual tokamak
systems to the panel of the foreign experts. The emphasis was on the tokamak assembly sequence and
compatibility of the individual components. Results of simulations and calculations were presented
as well. Several presentations about structural and thermal analyses were prepared and presented by
the specialists from the prestigious Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (Princeton, New Jersey,
USA), who are collaborating on the COMPASS-U tokamak development.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was carried out in full by videoconference.
Nineteen IPP experts actively presented at the conference and more than 50 scientists, engineers
and technicians from IPP participated as audience.
The Final Design Review of the Tokamak Assembly is an important milestone in the COMPASS-U
tokamak project.
