Joint Laboratory of Optics

Perex

The Joint Laboratory of Optics of the Palacky University in Olomouc and the Institute of Physics of CAS was established in 1984. The fundamental and applied research of the laboratory is focused on the areas of quantum and nonlinear optics, wave optics and physics of surfaces and layers.

Text

In the field of quantum and nonlinear optics, mainly the topics related to generation, transmission, detection, and quantum information processing are treated, using the fields of photon pairs obtained by parametric downconversion as the main tool.

The Laser and Optical Technologies Group deals with advanced approaches and applications focused on various areas of applied optics. The group also significantly contributes to large international collaborations established for cosmic radiation research (e.g. Pierre Auger Observatory, CTA - Cherenkov Telescope Array) by the development of the fluorescent detector systems.

The group also deals with the synthesis of surfaces and layers using plasma deposition and vacuum evaporation methods, the study of the mechanical properties of thin films, and the interaction of surfaces with intense laser beams.

The experimental particle physics group is particularly involved in the CERN-ATLAS experiment at the LHC accelerator, where it participates in the development of detection devices and physical analyses. Members of the wave optics group deal with the issues of wave optics and applications of non-contact measurement methods based on statistical optics.
