Typickou a nápadnou součástí květeny amerických polopouští jsou dva druhy bělokvětých pupalek rodu Oenothera: trsnatá O. caespitosa rostoucí na skalách či jílovitých půdách a O. deltoides osidlující stabilizované písečné duny. Květy obou druhů se rozevírají večer, na rozdíl od naší pupalky dvouleté (O. biennis) však zůstávají i za slunného počasí otevřené celé dopoledne.
Two species of white-bloom evening primrose of the Oenothera genus are typical and peculiar part of the American semi-desert flora: white-tufted evening primrose (Oenothera caespitosa), growing on rocks and in clay soils, and Antioch-dune evening primrose (Oenothera deltoides), putting down roots on stabilised sand dunes. The blooms of both species open in the evening, and unlike our evening primroses, they remain open even the whole morning.
