Main activities:
The main aim of Project Open Science is to contribute to the development of the knowledge economy and of competitiveness of the Czech Republic. To meet this aim, a wide range of activities are being carried out in the frame of the project. Partner Institutes organize courses and seminars for high school teachers, designed to enlarge their qualification and, simultaneously, to increase the quality of high school teaching in general. (Pioneer practical courses were organized already in August 2005 in the Academic and University centre in Nove Hrady, south of Bohemia, and had great success. Teachers of biology, physics and chemistry participated in the three successive one- week courses, each of them dedicated to one scientific branch, where many challenging lectures, discussions, laboratory experiments and excursions to prominent research facilities in the Czech Republic as well as in nearby foreign countries took place. The courses had been accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic.)

Some of the aims are set in the project itself, but the courses and seminars organized by the Open Science also help to establish and to reinforce direct contact between scientists and teachers who are finally linked to the other target group of the project – to gifted high school students. Within the project, the students can obtain scholarship in various scientific Institutes, where they can either carry out their own research or join any of the current projects underway, lead by scientific tutors. Therefore the conditions of education of gifted high school students are improving and the care for their interest in studies of science is ensured.
