The Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ICL) offers internships in literary and bibliographic research. Applicants (students in master’s or doctoral programmes at foreign universities) have the chance to join our research team in Prague or Brno for between one month and two semesters. As ICL interns, they will gain experience at a respected research institution and discover a supportive environment in which to develop their master’s or doctoral theses.
Since 2011, the ICL has hosted interns from the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland and Slovakia who have participated in departmental activities and worked with the editorial board of the journal Česká literatura and the Centre for Information on Literary Studies. Thanks to this cooperation, the ICL is now an experienced recipient institution under international funding programmes for professional internships such as Erasmus+ and the Visegrad Scholarships.
At the ICL, we believe it is important that students not only take part in academic discussions to the maximum extent possible but also present their own projects and the progress achieved during their internship.
What are our expectations of our next ICL intern?
- You are a student enrolled in a master’s or doctoral programme at a foreign university (this is a prerequisite for funding under most international transfer programmes).
- Your studies and research focus on literature, literary bibliography, literary theory and the history of the Czech lands. Work on a topic related to the current projects and interests of an ICL department is a major advantage.
- You are considering a career in scholarship and research.
You are interested in spending between one month and two semesters in the Czech Republic. - You have outstanding communication skills and can demonstrate an excellent knowledge of English; proficiency in Czech is a major advantage.
And what do we offer?
- A professional internship for a minimum of 20 hours per week at a highly regarded research institution.
- An internship programme adapted to your professional interests and preferences.
- Direct involvement in discussions with researchers at our institute and rich feedback from them on your research project (master’s or doctoral thesis).
- The chance to familiarise yourself with the ICL library and Czech Literary Bibliography resources. All these materials are at your disposal for your own project.
- Support with funding applications for your stay in the Czech Republic, e.g. Erasmus+, Visegrad Scholarship Programme, etc.
If you are interested in becoming an intern at the ICL, please send your application, including details of your proposed research project (master’s or doctoral thesis), to our deputy director for international cooperation, Mag. Dr. Michael Wögerbauer, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., at any time during the year.
