International summer school Physics At Nanoscale

Abstract

This year, the Institute of Physics together with the Institute of Physical Engineering at the Brno University of Technology organized another of a series of international summer schools Physics at Nanoscale, again with the support of the International Union of Vacuum Sciences, Technologies and Applications (IUVSTA).

Not even COVID-19 managed to interrupt the Young Physicists’ Tournament

Abstract

In the finals of the Young Physicists’ Tournament, a competition of secondary school students, our country will be represented by the Talnet team. They have won their participation in an even national round which due to the COVID-19 epidemics was held on-line. Also this year, the local rounds were organised with help of the Institute of Physics.

American patent opens the door to the largest nuclear market

Abstract

A patented method of protecting the surface of fuel cells from corrosion, which will extend the life of fuel cells under both emergency and standard conditions, could be used in all 94 nuclear reactors in the United States. Innovative solutions were patented in the Czech Republic by Irena Kratochvílová, František Fendrych, Andrew Taylor (for the Institute of Physics) and Radek Škoda, Jan Škarohlíd (then for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University) already in 2015.

Opinion concerning the changes in physics education in elementary schools

Abstract

The amended Framework Education Programmes published on 1 February 2021 by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports introduced significant curriculum reduction for physics education in elementary schools. The Education Programme disregards, for example, Newton’s laws or the explanation of the transformations of different forms of energy.
