In memoriam

The editors of EEPS are grieved to record the death of Professor Keith Hitchins (1931-2020), Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. EEPS will remember him not only for his own outstanding contributions to the history of Romania and eastern Europe, but also for his willingness to review a huge range of submissions to the journal, to the extent that editors had to be careful not to abuse his generosity. His assessments drew on an extraordinary store of erudition, and were unfailingly perceptive and enlightening, so that prospective authors--and EEPS's editors -- learnt a great deal from him. We will miss him deeply.
