HR Excellence

The recent goal of the Institute of Mathematics is to design and implement new strategic management following the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The Institute received the HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission on October 5, 2021.

Workshop on Generic Structures

In the period October 24-30, 2021, the Institute of Mathematics organizes a Workshop on Generic Structures in its Prague premisses. The workshop is devoted to recent results and current problems around the theory of generic structures. The aim is to gather specialists working in the area as well as students and young researchers interested in the topic. The event is taking place within the framework of the EXPRO project Abstract Convergence Schemes and Their Complexities funded by the Czech Science Foundation and led by W. Kubiś.

Best Book Publication Award

Prof. Mirko Rokyta, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, awarded Martin Doubek, Branislav Jurčo, Martin Markl and Ivo Sachs the Best Book Award 2020 for their monograph Algebraic Structure of String Field Theory published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Physics series in 2020. The book represents the first self-contained text explaining the role of operads in string field theory

Nezkreslená věda VI: Superpočítače

Pracovníci Střediska společných činností AV ČR ve spolupráci se studiem Maur Film vyrobili krátký animovaný popularizační film nazvaný Superpočítače. Komentář namluvili Barbora Hrzánová a Radek Holub, odborným garantem byl Jakub Šístek z Matematického ústavu AV ČR. Film vyrobený v rámci programu Strategie AV21 je volně přístupný na YouTube.

Matematika pro poučení i pro zábavu

Pracovníci Matematického ústavu AV ČR připravili webové stránky, na kterých žáci, studenti, učitelé a všichni zájemci o matematiku mohou najít popularizační přednášky, zábavné úlohy a další zajímavé odkazy týkající se matematiky.

Video promoting cooperation with Doosan-Bobcat EMEA in Dobříš

Institute of Mathematics prepared a promotional video presenting its cooperation with the company Doosan-Bobcat EMEA in Dobříš within Strategy AV21 on mathematical models of processes needed for the development of new compact excavators and loaders. The video is in Czech and presents successful solutions for problems concerning material fatigue, engine cooling, corresponding noise and phase transitions during windshield defrosting.

Institute of Mathematics received the HR Excellence in Research award

On October 5, 2021, the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences received the HR Excellence in Research award. European Commission provided the Institute with this prestigious award after a thorough assessment by independent reviewers. The award reflects the Institute's commitment to continuously improve human resource policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, notably the commitment of fair and transparent recruitment and appraisal procedures. The Institute is now listed on the EURAXESS portal among the HR Acknowledged Institutions and the HR Award logo will decorate the Institute's vacations advertised at the EURAXESS job portal. The Institute can now use the HR Excellence in Research award to promote its stimulating and favourable work environment.

Dny otevřených dveří v Matematickém ústavu AV ČR | Open Houses in the Institute of Mathematics CAS

Tradiční Dny otevřených dveří v Matematickém ústavu AV ČR jsou součástí Týdne Akademie věd ČR, nejrozsáhlejšího vědeckého festivalu v ČR pořádaného Akademií věd ČR ve spolupráci s dalšími institucemi ve dnech 1.–7. listopadu 2021. Široká veřejnost a především studenti středních škol mají možnost nahlédnout do pracoven, laboratoří a knihoven a poznat, jak se dělá věda. Badatelé z výzkumných pracovišť AV ČR připravují širokou nabídku exkurzí, přednášek, výstav a diskusních večerů, ve kterých představí své výzkumné projekty, předvedou nejmodernější vědecké přístroje a experimenty a přiblíží návštěvníkům nejnovější trendy v oblasti vědy. V Matematickém ústavu AV ČR se Dny otevřených dveří uskuteční na pražském pracovišti ve dnech 1.–5. listopadu 2021.

Traditional Open Houses in the Institute of Mathematics CAS is held as part of the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the most extensive scientific festival in the Czech Republic, organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with other institutions from 1st to 7th November 2021. The scientists from the research workplaces of the Academy of Sciences have prepared a wide offer of lectures, presentations, panel discussions, seminars, excursions, exhibitions and discussion evenings, in which they present their research projects, modern scientific devices and outline the latest trends in science. The Institute of Mathematics will be open to public from 1st to 5th November 2021.

The president of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Eva Zažímalová, named our colleagues Jiří Neustupa and Miroslav Šilhavý emeritus researchers. Some elements of mathematical analysis of compressible flows

This representative lecture was delivered on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 2 p.m., via Zoom. Video recording is available on YouTube.
The distinguished Eduard Čech Lectures held to commemorate one of the most eminent Czech mathematicians and founder of the Institute are directed to a general mathematical audience.
Professor Antonín Novotný is the fourth Eduard Čech Distinguished Visitor. The seventeenth Eduard Čech Lecture was a part of his research programme at the Institute of Mathematics.

Michal Hrbek received the Otto Wichterle Award

The prestigious Otto Wichterle Award, combined with a financial bonus, is presented yearly to selected promising young researchers from the institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences. President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Professor Eva Zažímalová presented the 2020 Otto Wichterle Premium to 22 young promising researchers from the Academy’s institutes. One of them was Michal Hrbek from the Institute of Mathematics CAS. The ceremony took place in Villa Lanna on 23^rd June 2020.
