SUPER-RESOLUTION 2021
The practical hands-on oriented course is strongly focused on super-resolution methods in light fluorescence microscopy field. The major objective of the course is to introduce newly available methods and cutting-edge machines to potential users: PhD students, postdocs and researchers in the biology.
The course is operating on the scale behind the resolution barrier for standard fluorescence microscope; from lateral resolution 180 nm down to the 25 nm. To solve this, the course theoretically and practically covers methods from high-resolution confocal microscope through computational super-resolution, structured illumination and stimulated depletion microscopy up to the single molecule localization microscopy.
The course covers theoretical background of all presented super-resolution techniques. Each practical session is designed like a demo and continuous to a hands-on.
Looking forward to seeing you in Prague!

Programme
3 days practical course will cover theoretical and practical aspects of the following super-resolution (SR) techniques:
- High resolution confocal scanning followed with image deconvolution
- Leica adaptive deconvolution module Lightning for SR confocal imaging
- SRRF-Stream computational SR module on confocal spinning disc
- Structured illumination microscopy: SIM, Lattice SIM and Lattice SIM2
- Stimulated emission depletion – STED microscopy
- Single molecule localization microscopy: dSTORM, 3D-PALM
The theoretical and practical parts include SIM and also localization data reconstruction and the confocal and STED image data deconvolution.
Participants will have an opportunity to test their own samples and try to set up their sample specific acquisition parameters. If desired, please contact organizers in advance for advice in sample preparation.
The course will be organized in the morning block of plenary lectures and afternoon practical and hands-on sessions:
The block of plenary lectures is aimed to describe presented super-resolution techniques, principles of each method and physical background. Real examples of scientific results reached in the field of biology will be presented in short lectures.
During hands-on sessions, participants will be practically experienced how to set crucial parameters for the methods. During this part, participants will work in small groups and will have an opportunity to try out the techniques for themselves.
Technical Equipment
During the course, participants will be practically introduced to variety of advanced imaging system and also to the software solutions for image post-processing.
The list of machines and software you find bellow:
- Leica TCS SP8
- Leica STELLARIS 8 FALCON with the LIGHTNING adaptive deconvolution
- Andor Dragonfly 503 – spinning disk confocal microscope with SRRF-Stream
- DeltaVision OMX™ V4
- Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X
- ZEISS Elyra7 with modules: Lattice SIM, Lattice SIM2 and 3D-PALM
- Huygens Professional deconvolution software
- Imaris software for 3D visualization

Registration deadline: 23:59, Nov 14, 2019 |
All materials needed for the hands-on sessions, temporal software licenses, consumables and all meals and refreshment during the days will be covered from registration fee by the course organization.
During the course, there will be the social networking program promoting the communication and establishing new cooperation among participants and lectors. However, the join into the social program is voluntary, it will be designed for all participants and the presence there is cordially recommended.
Travel costs and accommodation is not covered by registration fees and are organized individually by participants.
Selection
The course is designed for 12 participants. For the selection, the committee will observe mostly the motivation. In the case that we will need to do some selection, we will try to get together participants with similar level of experience.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the selection procedure by Nov 22, 2019.
Payment
Selected candidates will be informed by email about all payment details.
