The study combined a socio-economic perspective of the Czech family with a gender perspective, and this made it possible to capture some of the internal transformations of the Czech family that took place over the last decade from a new point of view. The analysis concentrated on the predominant type of family households - two-parent families. Changes in their economic position were studied, and the social position of economically active men and women living in families was compared according to their aggregate status as well as partial statuses. Here we analyse the specificities of Czech women's employment which distinguish them from the population of working women in developed Western countries, and assess the importance of women's employment for the existence, development and shape of the Czech family. We paid special attention to two-career marriages as a specific type of partnership which could play a significant role as a driving force of changes in the arrangement of relationships between men and women in contemporary family.
