Evaluations of CAS Institutes

Evaluations of the Research and Professional Activities of the Institutes of the CAS for 2015–2019

The Czech Academy of Sciences completed another round of its periodic evaluation which followed similarly designed evaluation from 2015, and aimed to acquire detailed and independent information about our institutes and research teams and set it in the international context.

52 research institutes and over 300 of their research teams were evaluated, covering scientific fields from Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Physics, Earth Sciences, Life and Chemical Sciences to Humanities and Social Sciences.

A two-phase informed peer-review was performed and predominantly international character of the evaluation kept. Panels (Phase I) and Commissions (Phase II) were established specifically for the purposes of this evaluation, their structure followed the OECD Fields of Science and Technology classification.

In Phase I, the assessment and marking of the selected number of research outputs submitted by research teams was performed.

In Phase II, the on-site evaluation of the institutes and research teams was due to the pandemic situation performed in the form of online visits. Outcomes and recommendations for each evaluated institute and team were summarised in a series of final reports.

Specific evaluation methodology was applied to the research-infrastructure focused institutes – namely the Centre of Administrations and Operations of the CAS and the Library of the CAS.

More information about the evaluation is planned to be published after the meeting of the Academy Assembly of the CAS in December 2021.

The evaluation was supervised by the Coordination Board.

Documents for the individual institutes of CAS:
Components of the package for each individual institute of the CAS are: (1) Characteristics of main research directions investigated at the institute and the achievements including Research Reports of the teams in the period 2010–2014, (2) Institute and Team Quality Profiles – results of the Phase I of the Evaluation, (3) Final Report on the Evaluation of the Institute and Teams – results of the Phase II of the Evaluation, (4) Statement from the Director of the Institute on the Final Report. On points 3 and 4 are displayed as many documents as were the number of field commissions evaluating the respective institute (up to 5).
