Jan Klípa studied art history at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Ph.D. 2007) and ecumenical theology at the Protestant Theological Faculty, Charles University (BA 2000). Between 2004 and 2017, he worked as a curator (2004–2015) and secretary for research (2012–2017) at the National Gallery in Prague where he participated in exhibitions and publication projects such as Silesia, a Pearl in the Bohemian Crown, Open the Gates of Paradise: The Benedictines in the Heart of Europe 800–1300 and Without Borders: Art in the Ore Mountains Between the Gothic and the Renaissance and he also worked as the editor of the Bulletin of the National Gallery Prague. In 2017, he joined the IAH CAS as a researcher focusing on panel painting in the 14th and 15th centuries, Romanesque art in Central Europe and the relationship between art and liturgy. Jan Klípa also co-authored texts for the new comprehensive history of Bohemian medieval art Imago, imagines and took part in the project Strategy AV 21 Europe and the State: Between Barbarism and Civilisation (research activity: Bohemian State in the Time of Wenceslas IV. Evidence of Art). Currently, he is the principal investigator of the grant project Image/s in Přemyslid era: Contexts and Forms (GAČR).
