Prof. Yakov Krasik at sabbatical stay in IPP
Prof. Yakov Krasik from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (Haifa, Israel) spent two months of his sabbatical leave at the PPS Department. He is a world expert on underwater electrical explosion of wire and wire arrays and the generation of converging strong shock waves, the generation of high power microwaves and on sub-ns microwave beam interaction with neutral gas, and pulse power technique.

15th International Bioelectrics Symposium (BIOELECTRICS 2018)
15th International Bioelectrics Symposium (BIOELECTRICS 2018)was held in Prague from September 23rd to 26th, 2018 (
http://www.bioelectrics2018.cz). The symposium with 74 participants from 12 countries presented a forum for the discussion on research and applications with respect to the interactions of electrical stimuli with living cells, such as in particular pulsed electric fields and non-thermal plasmas. The conference was organized by the Pulse Plasma Systems Department.

Prof. Bruce R. Locke as Fulbright Scholar at IPP
Professor Bruce R. Locke from the Florida State University, USA has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship at the Institute of Plasma Physics for the period September 2017 to June 2018. Prof. Locke is true leader and highly recognized expert in the field of plasma discharges formed in contact with liquids. Prof. Locke will focus during his stay at the IPP on the research of chemistry of plasma-liquid interactions in collaboration with the Dr. Petr Lukeš and his research team at the Dpt. of Pulse Plasma Systems.

The Best Poster Award of the 18th International Symposium on Laser Aided Plasma Diagnostics held in Prague from Sunday, 24 September 2017 to Thursday, 28 September 2017 was awarded to Dr. Milan Šimek for his poster on Streamer-induced vibrational kinetics of N2(A3Σu+, v) revealed by LIF technique in nitrogen-oxygen.

International Conference on Plasma with Liquids (ICPL 2017)
The PPS team organized final meeting of the COST Action TD1208 as International Conference on Plasma with Liquids (ICPL 2017),5.3.-9.3.2017, Hotel DUO, Prague with 136 participants from 31 countries (
http://www.icpl.cz) The purpose of this conference was to establish a forum for researchers, specialists, students and professionals from all over the world for discussion of the latest advances and perspectives in the field of electrical discharges with liquids and their applications. The meeting was open to all interested in R&D of Discharges with Liquids, including non-members of the COST Action TD1208.

Dr. Petr Lukes serves as a Guest Editor for the special issue Plasma and Liquids in Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics. The Co-Guest Editors of this special issue are along with P. Lukes, prof. Bruce R. Locke (Florida State University, USA), prof. Hidenori Akiyama (Kumamoto University, Japan) and prof. Peter Bruggeman (University of Minnesota, USA). The aim is to cover in this special issue state-of-art of actual topics in the field of plasma interacting with liquids. The special issue is scheduled for publishing during 2015.

Mr. Robert Banaschik from the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology (INP Greifswald), Greifswald, Germany worked as visiting scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Lukes during the period April 7-18, 2014. Mrs. Eva Dolezalova received Best Poster Award of Bioelectrics 2013 at 10th International Bioelectrics Symposium (BIOELECTRICS 2013) held in Karlsruhe, Germany, September 16-19, 2013. The title of her work was “Membrane damages of Escherichia coli in liquid suspension treated by atmospheric pressure plasma jet”. Eva is working in our research group on her PhD. Congratulation!

Book on Plasma Chemistry and Catalysis in Gases and Liquids
Dr. Petr Lukes is the co-Editor and author of three chapters in book Plasma Chemistry and Catalysis in Gases and Liquids. The book provides an overview of the basic principles of plasma-chemical and plasma-catalytic processes generated by electrical discharges in gas, liquid and gas/liquid environments, which is addressed by major experts in the fields of plasma physics, plasma chemistry and plasma catalysis. The book is divided into four major sections containing altogether 9 chapters that cover the state of the art of this topic in both fundamental and applied aspects. The Chapters 6-8, written by Dr. Lukes together with prof. Bruce R. Locke and prof. Jean-Louis Brisset, present a state-of-art fundamental and applied knowledge on plasma chemical processes associated with non-equilibrium plasma generated by electrical discharges in liquids and gas/liquid environments.

Visiting Professor at Kumamoto University in Japan
Dr. Petr Lukes spent 6 months as Visiting Professor at Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan with research group of prof. Hidenori Akiyama. This stay promoted closer research collaboration between the Institute of Plasma Physics AS CR and Kumamoto University, which is taking place in the framework of the International Bioelectrics Consortium. Dr. Lukes during his stay in Kumamoto University was guiding several master’s and doctoral students in conducting their experiments, participated on many scientific seminars and performed research focused on plasmachemical and physical processes induced by non-thermal plasma and shock waves in water.
